Test Dummies: Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Shampoo

Shea Moisture Shampoo
I have naturally curly hair (that’s me on the left), I’m probably a 2c if you use the Naturally Curly classifications, but I tend to style my curl down. So, in an effort to embrace my natural texture I wanted to get more moisturizing hair products that were still natural/toxin-free. I had heard amazing things about Shea Moisture’s stuff from Sun Kiss Alba and when I recently took a trip to the states, I immediately went to pick this up…along with several other Shea Moisture items (more reviews coming soon!).

US $10.99 for 13 oz. This shampoo is exclusive to US Target stores, so you can’t get it in Canada :(.  I have, however, found other Shea Moisture products for purchase in Canada online at Sally.com or through Honey Fig in Toronto (though their prices are a little higher). I haven’t purchased anything through those retailers yet, but I’ll update this post when/if I do with any helpful tips.

I’ve only been posting positive product reviews so far, but that’s because I want to share the good stuff first! This shampoo is amazing. When I first washed with it, I was not impressed and started to feel buyers remorse– my hair didn’t have that traditional “squeaky clean” feeling I’d had with other shampoos, so I freaked out. BUT, if you have hair like mine STICK WITH IT, now I don’t know what I would do without it.

It smells amazing, the sweet honey smell lingers after washing in a really nice, non-overpowering way.  My scalp never feels dry or flaky and the natural texture of my hair is less frizzy, easier to manage and more defined, which makes me more comfortable to leave it natural.

Shea Moisture Shampoo

None of the nasties!

When I wash with this, I can run my fingers through my wet hair without conditioner. This was NOT an option before. My hair is smooth and tangle free, and the ingredients are sulfate-free, cruelty-free and the company supports ethically traded ingredients that are sustainably produced. All that for under $20+tax, not too shabby.

I’ve had this shampoo since November and it’s still going strong- I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and there’s about a quarter of the bottle left, so a little goes a long way if you’re wondering. I really couldn’t say enough nice things, I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out…

This shampoo has definitely made it onto my Holy Grail list of beauty products. Next time I’m in the US I’m loading up and trying some of their other shampoos.

I would 100% recommend this to someone with my hair type, or even curlier hair. I’ll have to get Erin to try it out on her texture before we can recommend it to our straight haired readers 🙂
