This month kicked off my subscription to Petit Vour and I wanted to share a quick recap and review of the products in my February 2015 beauty box, click through to see more details about what I thought of the products :).
Now that spring is here and the weather is (…slowly) warming up in Canada, I thought I’d do a post on choosing a more natural sunscreen. I’m a huge sun-lover. If someone told me I was some type of fabulous water lizard in another life, I would believe them. There are few things I love more than a beach and sunny weather. That being said, I also don’t want to end up looking like a human lizard as I age – so sun protection is important.
Erin and I had the pleasure of visiting the The Detox Market Toronto a few weeks ago. I’m obsessed with watching beauty/makeup videos on YouTube, and one of my favourite channels is celebrity make-up artist Jamie Greenberg. Recently, she went to the LA Detox Market, and all I could think was…
Jamie doesn’t post exclusively about natural products, but she is so damn hilarious that I love watching her anyways. She does Kaley Cuoco’s make up, and the videos of them two together crack me up. Anyway, after I watched her video I immediately went and Googled the store to check for a website/on-line shopping, and found that they had a Toronto location:
WHY I BOUGHT IT:
I have naturally curly hair (that’s me on the left), I’m probably a 2c if you use the Naturally Curly classifications, but I tend to style my curl down. So, in an effort to embrace my natural texture I wanted to get more moisturizing hair products that were still natural/toxin-free. I had heard amazing things about Shea Moisture’s stuff from Sun Kiss Alba and when I recently took a trip to the states, I immediately went to pick this up…along with several other Shea Moisture items (more reviews coming soon!).
WHY I BOUGHT IT
I was in the habit of using coconut oil to moisturize after I showered, but sometimes that can get a bit oily/takes a while to absorb. I thought I’d try something new and really like Dr. Bronner’s products, so gave this lotion a shot.
$13.99 for 237 ml
I really like this lotion, the consistency is more of a mix between an oil and a cream. It’s kind of runny, but absorbs quickly and I don’t need that much to moisturize my whole bod (4-5 pumps). I also really like how smooth it makes my skin feel after using it and doesn’t have a heavy scent. (more…)
I’m trying to transition all my makeup and skin care to natural, cruelty-free products and it’s going well so far. I feel like there is way more variety at Whole Foods or your local supermarket, drug store etc. than before, but some natural brands can be preeeetty pricey. To the point where, when I buy something and it isn’t working, it bums me and my wallet out.
It’s tough to get samples at the grocery store, and I could just return the full size product if it’s not working out, but I hate being wasteful and always ask myself: “Where do those lightly used products go once people return them?”. I ended up asking someone at Sephora what they would do with a concealer I was returning and they said it would probably be thrown out…
