Hold onto summer with this sweet and refreshing salad! This simple salad boasts a great taste and benefits your body. Cucumber is full of water and many nutrients; mango is often nick-named “the king of fruits” due to it’s abundance of nutrients and health benefits; and avocado is the king of all food in my heart because of it’s healthy fats, high nutritional value and creamy texture!

Berry Beautiful Smoothie

When food has such a naturally beautiful, vibrant colour, you know that it’s good for you! This smoothie isn’t just easy on the eyes, it’s the full package, loaded with yummy flavours and health benefits!

The colour, taste and benefits come from using a mixture of berries, including blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. As I have mentioned before, combining different types of berries is even better than just using one because they enhance each others antioxidant capacity! The antioxidant capacity of various fruits individually has been found to be less than the same amount of a mixture of fruits.

Blueberry Grape Spinach Smoothie

FullSizeRenderHealthy smoothies are often sweetened with bananas, however I’ve read that bananas can increase mucus production… so when my sinus issues are really acting up I try to stay away from them. That is when I turn to grapes to help sweeten my veggie packed smoothies!

Another great benefit of using grapes is that when they are paired with blueberries, (as they are in this smoothie), they enhance each others antioxidant capacity! The antioxidant capacity of various fruits individually (apples, oranges, blueberries, grapes) has been found to be less than the same amount of a mixture of fruits.

Grapes are on the Dirty Dozen list, which means they have one of the highest concentrations of pesticide residue, so make sure you buy them organic!
